What it is
CoMP standardizes the commercial side of AI content access rather than only signaling preferences. Its current framing is about making permissions, terms, and marketplace interactions machine-readable before a bot is allowed to crawl or use content.
As forward-looking infrastructure, it is not yet a settled, widely deployed standard, but it bridges blocking, licensing, and scalable monetization workflows.
Limitations
CoMP is still a draft standards effort and explicitly assumes that content owners also have strong blocking or gating controls at the edge.
